MATCH PREDICTION

Australia finished fourth at the last Olympics and then fourth again at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup but the Matilda’s, without star player Sam Kerr due to injury, have struggled so far. After being hammered 3-0 by Germany, they had to come from 5-2 down to win 6-5 in a remarkable game against the lowest ranked team in the tournament, Zambia. The United States, though, have cruised through to the quarter-finals with some excellent performances at the start of Emma Hayes’ reign. They hammered the Zambians before then defeating Germany by four goals to one. Team USA could rotate and the Australians may seek to simply nick what will be a game of fine margins so a low-scoring affair is to be expected.
