MATCH PREDICTION
After finishing fourth at the Olympics three years ago and then reaching the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year, Australia came into the tournament with some real hope of medalling, despite the absence of the injured Sam Kerr. However, they began their campaign with a really poor performance as a slick and efficient German side hammered them by three goals to nil. Zambia, on the other hand, came into the tournament just happy to have qualified as the lowest ranked side in the Olympics. They went 3-0 down inside 25 minutes against the United States before then going down to ten after 34 minutes but managed to keep the score at a respectable 3-0. Despite the pride and resilience shown by Zambia in limiting their loss to the same scoreline as Australia’s defeat, Australia remain the overwhelming favourites and should win quite comfortably.
