Aliou Cisse and Senegal are back again. The 2019 runners-up and 2021 winners of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations are in danger of being a bit stuck and being too loyal to their so-called ‘golden generation’ of the last half a decade or so. They now face a Burkina Faso side that have reached the semi-finals of two of the last four AFCON tournaments but their Round of 16 exit at the 2023 event in Ivory Coast earlier this year is representative of their underwhelming form throughout the last 12-18 months or so. Senegal are favourites, especially with home advantage, but it is expected to be a low-scoring encounter.
