English Premier League

The second international break of the campaign so far is at an end and makes way for the return of Premier League action. We’ll see Liverpool and Chelsea do battle at Anfield, whilst both Man City and Arsenal play away from home. Failure to beat Brentford would pile even further pressure on Man Utd and boss Erik ten Hag.

There are plenty of different options on the table for FPL managers to choose from in regards to a Gameweek 8 captain and with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at some of the most eye-catching choices.

Cole Palmer (£10.8m) vs LIV (A)

The joint-highest FPL point-scorer of the season so far, Palmer also owns the highest individual fantasy score across a single gameweek in 2024-25 as it stands, following his four goals and 25-point-haul against Brighton back in Gameweek 6. Chelsea’s main man will now look to make a big attacking impact vs a Liverpool side without their first-choice goalkeeper and Fantasy bosses must be toying with the possibility of captaining Palmer.

Erling Haaland (£15.4m) vs WOL (A)

Haaland’s Gameweek 8 opponents are rock bottom Wolves, who have the worst backline in the Premier League right now, conceding a whopping 21 goals. This bodes well for the vast majority of fantasy managers who will no doubt choose to captain Norway’s newly crowned all-time record goalscorer, who has already found the net ten times across Man City’s opening seven league games of the season.

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.5m) vs MUN (A)

Brentford star Mbeumo could well be the key to breaking through a struggling Man Utd, especially when considering that he has recorded a goal in all of his last three Premier League appearances. Likely to also be on penalties for the Bees, Mbeumo is looking to increase his tally of six league goals already in 2024-25 and FPL bosses who choose to name him their captain could be handsomely rewarded.

Raul Jimenez (£5.6m) vs AVL (H)

With an ownership of under 7% at the time of writing, Mexican striker Jimenez represents an attractive differential captaincy choice for any FPL manager needing to make up ground on their mini-league rivals. Leading the line admirably for Fulham, Jimenez boasts an attacking return in each of the last four gameweeks, accumulating 29 fantasy points in total.
